Check whether a citation exists — before you rely on it.
Free tools that check citations the way you actually use them: does it exist, do its details match the record, and — for papers — does its abstract support your claim?
A citation that exists does not by itself prove it supports your argument. Existence, metadata match, and claim support are shown separately.
Legal citation check
Check a case citation: does the case exist in CourtListener, and does the case name match the citation? The browser version is a format and completeness check only; the full existence check runs via the CLI.

Check a research citation: does the paper exist, do its authors, year, title and identifier match the record, is it retracted, and does its abstract support your claim? Abstract support is a first-pass screen, not a verdict.
